Local Company honored for Community effort by 100 Black Men, Las Vegas chapter

The Las Vegas Chapter (The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas Inc. (100 BMOLV) of the 100 Black Men of America Inc. has announced their Community Public Service Award winner for 2006. At an afternoon awards luncheon Randal Bacon, Chapter Parliamentarian and Larry Mosley, Founding President announced this year’s winner at the annual event hosted by Nevada Partners, Inc.

Honored for their overall community giving and their partnership with the Urban Community was Cox Communications of Las Vegas. According to Founding President Larry Mosley, “Cox Communications sets itself as an example to other corporations for their continuing effort to better the local Community.” Current President Theodore Watkins echoed Mosley’s statements by adding, “Through numerous partnerships Cox and its employees have set the bar high as to standing up for the needs of the Urban community and their assistance of the children. Las Vegas is a better Community because of the actions of this Company.” Accepting the Award for Cox Communications was Steve G. Schorr, Vice President Public and Government Affairs who is also a Board member of the 100 BMOLV.

Today the 100 BMOLV is one of 108 chapters internationally that focus on improving the quality of life in communities with a collaborative and pragmatic effort focusing on teaching them empowerment. The goal is to create and foster an environment where young people are encouraged and motivated to become productive citizens. The chapter fully supports the “Four for the Future” concepts of Mentoring, Education, Economic Development and Health & Wellness awareness. Members of the “100” serve as a collective force to help children overcome cultural and financial obstacles that have traditionally limited the achievement of African Americans and other minority youth.

Other organizations honored as Stakeholders for their Partnerships included MGM/Mirage, Harrah’s, State Farm Insurance and the Culinary Union of Las Vegas.
