Overview

Cox Digital CableCARD Service is a new way to receive video programming through the use of a Digital Cable Ready TV (DCR TV). New to the marketplace, a DCR TV has built-in technology that allows consumers to receive digital and High-Definition (HD) cable without the use of a set-top box. Instead, consumers can lease a CableCARD device from Cox to access digital cable and HD programming. Based on the selection of your programming package, all video products can be delivered, even encrypted programming such as premium channels.

A CableCARD tm device is the interface module between the cable head end and the customers DCR device (typically a TV).

Cox Digital CableCARD Service Availability

  • The first generation of Digital Cable Ready TVs are “one-way,” meaning that they cannot support two-way interactivity. The Cable and Consumer Electronics industries are currently exploring a two-way technology, but there is no solution in place yet.
  • With one-way devices, consumers will not have access to:
    • Cox’s Interactive Program Guide (IPG) including Cox’s Parental Controls
    • Pay-Per-View (PPV) movies and special events
    • On Demand Services including Entertainment on Demand (EOD) Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) (In Markets where available)
    • Digital Video Recording (DVR) (In Markets where available)

What if I want two-way interactive services?

  • If you would like to receive two-way services, such as Cox’s Interactive Program Guides (IPG), Entertainment on Demand Services (EOD) or Pay-Per-View (PPV) movies or special events, you must use a digital set top box provided by Cox Communications.Trobleshooting.

Taking Care of Your CableCARD Device

There is no cleaning or maintenance required for the CableCARD. When the CableCARD is installed into your Digital Cable Ready TV, it is paired to this TV only. Pairing matches the DCR TV and the CableCARD using technology that allows subscribers to view the programming to which they subscribe. Once a Digital Cable Ready TV and CableCARD are paired, the CableCARD will not work with any other television. Once the CableCARD has been installed DO NOT REMOVE it..

Troubleshooting

Television is no longer showing any signal.

  • Check to make sure that your cable connection is “finger” tight at the wall outlet and on the back of your television.
  • Certain TVs may require the cable to be inserted in a certain outlet. Please refer to your users’ manual for more details.
  • Turn off TV, unplug power, and disconnect and reconnect coaxial cable to back of the TV. Turn TV on.

The Television is displaying the CableCARD Activation Screen.

    • Reinsert the CableCARD into the TV.
    • The Activation Screen should display within 5 minutes.
    • If the Activation Screen does not reappear within 5 minutes, refer to your television’s user’s manual for instruction on how to display the Activation Screen using the remote control.
    • The activation screen should appear within 5 minutes, if not access the screen through the TV menu and locate the following and contact your local Cox customer support representative: CableCARD device ID
You should see the Activation Screen disappear within 5 minutes. If it does not refer to your user’s manual for the steps you need to take to exit the screen using your remote control.
    • Verify that you can now view encrypted channels like HBO.
    • If you cannot please try 2 more times.
    • If you are still experiencing trouble please contact Cox Customer Support.
